My name is Mike and I live in Western NY, an area which is seeing the financial destruction of job loss just like many other places in the US. I have spent the last 20 years as a Quality Control Manager for a large environmental remediation firm and then as a Documentation Analyst for a large manufacturing operation. I have a little extra time to dedicate to this blog, since I am a 1099 and finished up a long term project a few months ago.
The reason I started this blog was to highlight the ever deteriorating job picture and to list smaller layoff announcements that don’t get the attention of the larger main stream media (MSM) outlets. In fact, MSM as a whole does a rather poor job of gathering unemployment information in a single location and it often distorts unemployment statistics. So, I hope to present a clearer picture of unemployment data and present it in a concise and informative manner. I also hope to add pertinent employment information as it appears on the news feeds.
I hope a few of you can use the information from my posts. If you have any suggestions on how this site can better help you, please feel free to let me know at mike@layofflist.org

I am reading about 10 blogs/day on layoffs and other related actions resulting from eco downturn. Where are you? Maybe we could connect.
Im also starting blog on WP.com – beingunemployed.wordpress.com
I think your blog should go from .com to .org – have you thought of that?

I found your site looking for info on layoffs for Merillat “Masco”. I thought I would give you a heads up. They just let the Rapid City SD employee’s know that as of September they are shutting the plant here down permanently. That is around 150 workers out of work along with the SCI plant here in Rapid City closing down which employed around 275 workers. This is a smaller town and a lot of people out of work. My husband will now be one of them.
Thanks for the heads up Rapid City. I’m very sorry to hear about your husband’s job loss, and I hope he finds work again soon. I’ve been through Rapid City and the Badlands a couple of times and I was impressed with the land and the people. Best of luck. Mike
Hello Mike.
I recently lost a career job I loved for 18 years due to the econonomy and nationwide job cuts.
I learned from my experience that there is deeper meaning, joy, and opportunity hidden in the loss of a job.
If my personal sudden job loss experience and results found in my new book, The Joy of Job Loss, are a help to anyone impacted by job loss, please check out my website to know more:
